5 money saving tips for the Chicago Summer

Summer in Chicago is a fun and exciting time, which can rival that of any other major city in the world. Unfortunately, it can also rival the prices of any other city in the world. This can take a large toll on your bank accounts and send you down the road of debt and bankruptcy, but it doesn’t have to. Here are 5 money saving tips that should help lighten the financial burden, and heighten your summer fun:

  1. Walk or bike when you can. Transportation costs, even public transportation, can add up quickly. Take advantage of the great summer weather and beautiful scenic views of the city by walking or biking. This can also provide great exercise and health benefits. It doesn’t get any better.
  1. Go to city fair’s and events. Chicago sponsors many great fair’s and events, which are free to attend. Take advantage of the city’s generosity. These fair’s and events are generally very culturally and socially educational and fun. Save even more money by bringing your own snacks to avoid the high priced food at these events.
  1. Visit Chicago’s many parks and beaches. Chicago pride’s itself on having many public parks and beaches. They can provide hours of free family or friend fun. Simply bring some food, a towel and a football(or whatever game you like) and enjoy the natural surroundings.
  1. Be careful with your energy bill. Summer and air conditioning tend to go hand in hand. However, they don’t have to. Fans make for a more efficient way of cooling your house. Additionally, avoid running the A/C while you are away from home. Finally, keep your lighting to a minimum during the day, for that tends to add additional heat to your home.
  1. Take advantage of museum discounts. Chicago is well known for its many museums. These museums can cost a pretty penny, however they do have great discounts throughout the summer. Call the museums that interest you and find out when they will be offering discounted passes. Save money and experience some of the finest cultural achievements in the world.
With these tips, your summer will be a great one, while not forcing you into hibernation for the winter.
